  Eleven-year-old Josephine enters the darkened kitchen of their Ozark Mountain home to find her father despondent. A neighbor has been shot. Tongues are wagging that it was a killing long coming and well deserved. But murder is murder, even in the newly formed state of Arkansas. As light begins to reveal old truths, shadows begin to tell new lies.
